being a news reporter can really suck sometimes. i have felt completely overwhelmed and paralyzed by the coverage of new orleans and the aftermath of hurricane katrina. nothing is getting done around the house or with my quiz writing job. the stories coming out of new orleans, in particular, are heartbreaking. i try not to watch it when the kids are around, because KidTwo is already freaked out by storms, and i don't want to add to it the images of homes being washed away and homeless people in the streets. i'm not sure if she or KidOne have any idea about what's going on. if they do, they haven't said anything.

in the life goes on department......

we're supposed to take the kids to holiday world/splashin' safari ths weekend. they are totally excited. and the weather is supposed to be good. the only drawback is having to wear a bathing suit.....not a pretty picture.

another random item..........

the other day, KidOne came home from school and said "Mommy, did you know some people think i'm a girl?"...... ever since he was a baby, people have thought KidOne was a girl. he has big, beautiful eyes, thick, curly hair (which he likes to keep sort of long), and really long eyelashes-- basically, he's a beautiful boy (he would die if he heard me call him beautiful!) even now that he's 7, and usually wearing something with a superhero on it, people always tell me "you're girls are beautiful!" to which i reply "thanks." i knew that one day it would start to bother KidOne. so when he told me that, i held my breath and waited for him to say "i want to get my hair cut" or get upset. but he really seemed matter-of-fact about it, like he was just reporting the facts.

i remember last year, one of his older friends said "your hair looks like a girl's." and KidOne said "Duh...it couldn't be girl's hair, because it's on a BOY's head.....duh!" and this friend, who essentially has a crew cut said "you should get it cut like mine." and KidOne said "no thanks, i like my hair the way it is."

and i thought "Go, KidOne!"

he's a pretty cool kid, if i do say so myself.
