my son cracks me up! he had a half day of school today, and his best buddy, Nicholas, came home with us. KidOne has been planning for this playdate since the last half day when he went to Nicholas's house for the afternoon. it started with KidOne going through the CDs and picking out which ones he liked best (REM, They Might Be Giants, the Animal House soundtrack). it continued with a list of snacks (nutter butters, peanut butter M&Ms, and hawaiian punch) and DVDs (Harry Potter 1 and 2, the Spongebob Movie, and the old-school Batman movie with Adam West). finally, there was a layout of his room on graph paper (i'm not kidding), indicating how he wanted things set up ( a snack table, the portable DVD player, CDs stacked next to his boom box).

so today was the big day. i was worried KidOne's vision of the day would not match up to the reality. but my fears were put to rest when, within five minutes of arriving home, the boys were blasting "Shout" on the boombox and calling back "hay-ay-ay-ay!" the only snag seems to be that Nicholas does not like peanut butter, so nutter butters and peanut butter M&Ms were not the perfect choice. but that mini-crisis was averted when i sent a tube of sour cream and onion pringles up to KidOne's room. we've been home for almost three hours, and i've only seen them twice. ahhhhhh, the perfect playdate!
